What Pope Francis Actually Said

I haven't be Roman Catholic, or even Christian, for a long time...

But Francis is the best Pope the Church has had in a long, long time.

Asked about statements made by Donald Trump during his disastrous run for the United States presidency, Francis has this to say:

“And then, a person who thinks only about building walls, wherever they may be, and not building bridges, is not Christian. This is not in the gospel. As far as what you said about whether I would advise to vote or not to vote, I am not going to get involved in that. I say only that this man is not Christian if he says things like that. We must see if he said things in that way and in this I give the benefit of the doubt.”

Did Francis' meaning get lost in translation as some conservative pundits have suggested?

I hope not.

  1. While I'm not up on Catholic politics and such, what I've read of the new Pope suggests he's a good man and someone worth listening to.
As for Mr. Trump suffering from hurt feelings after hearing the Pontiff's comments, that pretty much says it all.
Much is being made recently in some conservative circles regarding the wall around Vatican City and suggesting that there is some hypocrisy present. One has but to look at the front gate being open daily to put that to rest.
And of course, they really hate it when you bring up another famous conservative speaking publicly on the subject of walls,
