More Things We Learn At The Deer Rifle Sight-In (2006, Take One)

It was that time of year again...in 2006.

Worked at the deer rifle sight in at the gun club today. Everyone did pretty well, but maybe that's because I was hanging out at the 25 and 50 yard lines helping out the guys with new guns and new scopes. One guy with a Mossberg 12 ga rifled slug gun was giving me fits until I figured out he was alternating between Fosters, Brennekes, and sabots each time he shot a group. Several guys showed up with Remington 710 package guns and did credible work with them. There were only a few Remington selfloaders, but the rusted, gunked up 742s with loose see through mounts and broken no-name scopes usually don't show up until the last day (which will be next Sunday). There was one guy shooting some sort of special 7400 with upgraded wood and deerhunting scene rollmarked on the receiver. The interesting thing was he was shooting credible groups with it. Maybe the fact that he put a Leupold 3-9x on it in low mounts helped.
